Put the game
on the TV Four taps, and no console.

The phone is the console, so the television is optional — but a kid leaning on a board in front of a 55-inch screen is a different evening from a kid squinting at a phone propped against the sofa.

Do this part second

Casting is the last step, not the first. Get the board talking to the app, play one round on the phone, and only then send it to the TV. If something goes wrong you will know which half it was.

The order

Board first. Screen second.

Three steps to a game, and the last one is a choice you can change any evening.

01 GO PRESS IT Under the lid on top 02 CONNECTED OPEN THE APP It finds the sensor itself OR 03 · A PHONE OR TABLET Propped on the floor. Nothing else needed. 03 · B OR CAST IT TO THE TV Three taps. The steps are below. Sound comes through the TV too.

The app is free on both platforms — App Store and Google Play. There is nothing to buy inside it.

iPhone & iPad

Apple calls it Screen Mirroring.

  1. Put the phone and the TV on the same Wi-Fi.
  2. Swipe down from the top-right corner for Control Centre.
  3. Tap Screen Mirroring.
  4. Pick your TV. If it asks for a four-digit code, the code is on the TV.
  5. Open the GoBalance app once it connects.

Android

Cast — Smart View on Samsung, Screen Cast on some others.

  1. Put the phone and the TV on the same Wi-Fi.
  2. Swipe down twice from the top for Quick Settings.
  3. Tap Cast. Samsung labels the same button Smart View.
  4. Pick your TV.
  5. Open the GoBalance app once it connects.

If your TV isn’t listed

It may not work

Not every set does, and no amount of retrying changes that. A Chromecast is the cheapest fix — it plugs into a spare HDMI port and both platforms find it.

Known to work: Apple TV, and most Samsung, LG, Sony and Vizio sets from around 2019 that list AirPlay 2. On Android, anything with Chromecast built in.

What to expect

A short delay

There is a small lag between the board and the picture. It does not affect the score — the sensor talks to the phone directly, not through the TV.

On the fast games, the ones where he is steering, we would keep the phone in front of him and use the TV for everyone else to watch. On the slower ones the lag is invisible.

Sound comes through the TV too, so the phone does not need to stay within earshot.
